In a laudatory gesture, the Ooni of Ife, His Imperial Majesty Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, has extolled the remarkable contributions of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to Nigeria’s unity, integration, and development since its inception in 1973. During a gracious visit to the NYSC National Directorate Headquarters in Maitama, Abuja, the esteemed monarch, represented by Her Regal Majesty Olori Temitope Enitan Ogunwusi, conveyed his appreciation for the NYSC’s invaluable endeavors.
The Ooni of Ife expressed his admiration for the NYSC’s pivotal role as a beacon of hope for the nation, underscoring its contribution to fostering unity through the promotion of inter-tribal, inter-cultural, and inter-regional relationships among Nigerian youth. He acknowledged the NYSC’s role in not only cultivating national integration but also in inspiring inter-marriages that transcend cultural boundaries, thereby reinforcing the country’s harmonious coexistence.
Offering accolades to the Director General of NYSC, Brigadier General YD Ahmed, the Ooni of Ife commended his humility and collaborative approach with stakeholders, which have garnered increased support and goodwill for the organization under his leadership since he assumed office earlier this year.
In his welcome address, Brigadier General Ahmed expressed gratitude to the monarch for gracing the NYSC’s headquarters with his presence despite his demanding schedule. He lauded the Ooni of Ife as a detribalized Nigerian who consistently advocates for national unity on various platforms.
Describing the Ooni of Ife as a paragon of generosity and hospitality, Brigadier General Ahmed highlighted the monarch’s warm reception of Corps members whenever they visit his palace in Ile-Ife, Osun state.
Following the courtesy visit, Her Regal Majesty represented the Ooni of Ife at the NYSC Radio and Television studio, engaging in an interactive session with presenters. During the discussion, she encouraged both current and prospective Corps members to uphold patriotism and dedication in their service, drawing inspiration from the legacy set by their predecessors.
Her Regal Majesty also visited the NYSC Museum of Dynamic History, expressing delight over the displayed artifacts. She urged other government agencies to take a cue from the initiative, emphasizing the importance of preserving historical heritage for the benefit of future generations.
